Chicago’s 43rd Ward Alderman Vi Daley and Children’s Memorial Hospital are gearing up for the 8th Annual 43rd Ward Summer Safety Fest, Saturday, June 28, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Lincoln Park High School. The event is free.
Mayor Daley’s Bicycle Ambassadors will be fitting bike helmets and the first 150 children will receive free bike helmets. The Summer Safety Fest will also feature live entertainment by Old Town School of Folk Music, Emerald City Theater Company and A-Z Entertainment. All children who attend will receive a goodie bag filled with toys and treats from local businesses.
There will be free food and drink provided and games for the children to play. Also, there will be a free raffle, prizes including a child’s bicycle donated by Village Cycle to be raffled off at the end of the event.

Freddy Jones Band and Cowboy Mouth Headline ‘Summer’s Best Festival’
Celebrating 40 years of beautiful gardens, rocking music and delicious food, the Sheffield Garden Walk & Festival opens its gates July 19-20 in Sheffield’s Garden District of Chicago.
The annual event is unique among Chicago’s growing number of weekend summer gatherings because it is truly a “neighborhood” festival—organized by the Sheffield Neighborhood Association, a non-profit community organization, and staffed with more than 450 volunteers.
Over 35,000 people have attended the Garden Walk in recent years. Event managers expect this year’s attendance to be among the highest ever due to an extremely strong line-up of bands, the more than 100 resident gardens for public viewing and the popular children’s activities. In addition, both novice and experienced gardeners can take advantage of the Garden Center, where advice from Master Gardeners on topics such as plant material, design style and challenges peculiar to urban gardens, and guided garden tours are available.
Chicago favorite Freddy Jones Band will close out Saturday’s strong entertainment schedule while teen favorite and family friendly School of Rock will kickoff Sunday’s musical line-up.
